Notice one detail
Read the other person’s profile before writing. Pick a book, weekend plan, favorite place, or shared interest that you can respond to naturally. A message that mentions one real detail feels more attentive than a greeting copied across several profiles.
Ask a small question
Two or three sentences are enough: say hello, mention the detail, and ask one easy question. For example: “You mentioned hiking near the coast. Is there a trail you keep returning to?” A single question leaves space for a genuine reply.
Let the pace breathe
Avoid asking for private information in the first note. If there is no reply, give the person room and move on. A warm beginning depends on curiosity and respect, not on a perfect opening line.
